The ancient church with court of San Gervasio, donated to the Farfensi monks by the Ottoni dynasty in 967 and erected at the bottom of the Parco delle Rimembranze on the remains of a Roman rustic villa, was moved to the beginning of the current avenue and dedicated to Saints Gervasio and Protasio (still today patrons of Massignano) towards the end of the fourteenth century.

In 1412 he obtained from the bishop of Fermo the dignity of priory, while previously he was dependent on the parish of San Basso in the territory of Marano.
From its ruins (along with those of the oldest church of San Pietro, dating from the fifth-sixth century and located along the homonymous district between Massignano and Val Menocchia) was later erected the current Santa Maria della Misericordia, built in 1842 in the place where it is believed that there was already a small temple of Roman times.
On the facade of the building there are two statues depicting Saint Peter and Saint Anthony of Padua made by workers massignanesi, known in the art of pottery until the 60s of the last century.
Among the valuable paintings inside it is worth mentioning the altarpiece “Our Lady of the Rosary and Ss. Domenico, Giacomo Maggiore Apostle, Gervasio and Protasio”, stylistically similar to the art of Ludovico Trasi, a painter from Ascoli active between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. It still resounds a small bell dating back to 1235 and coming from the old church of S. Gervasio.
Here are some points of interest that we suggest you to visit to continue to discover all the beauties of the territory of Massignano.
From the town as from several points of the surrounding countryside open to the eyes glimpses of wonderful beauty: the hills dotted with small villages stretch out like a rolling carpet between the blue of the Adriatic Sea and the Sibillini mountains, also known as “blue mountains”.
